Transfering from community college to USC?

Hello there!

Okay, not to sound like I am planning super early or anything...but I plan on transferring from community college to USC (University of Southern California). The thing is that I haven't even started community college yet, as I took this special test called the CHSPE and ended up graduating from high school early. I am waiting for spring semester to start and I want to start planning on what school I want to transfer to...which would definitely be USC. A lot of people say that USC is really hard to get into, and that really makes me feel like I have no chance of getting in, especially because I would be a community college transfer student. I will be attending Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa before I get enough credits to transfer to a university. I am just really worried that I don't have that much of a chance. Another thing is that I plan on majoring in Education (I want to become an elementary teacher) and minoring in English at the university I attend in the future (whichever it may end up being). In that case, are those specific schools of USC harder to get into? I am also really worried about math in community college, as that is a subject I have always struggled in...and failing to do well may result in going to a not so good university. In case you can't already tell, I am freaking out a lot and school hasn't even started, and yes.... USC is my dream school! What are some things I should do in community college and what kind of grades should I get that would give me a good chance of getting in. Any suggestions and all of your help is much, much appreciated...thank you!!

I did something very similar to you. I left high school early as well. First, I would recommend you speak to a transfer counselor immediately about planning your courses.
I’m sure you don’t need upper div math courses for USC (education major at least) so you’ll probably just have to take statistics or something. Have you registered for spring semester? ^take a look at the comment above and register for classes that follow USC general breadth pattern. I’d also recommend taking a look at assist.org. This helps you with the general UC IGETC course pattern. Enroll in your colleges honor program to get priority registration so you can make this as easy as possible. USC has transfer days monthly…go to one of those. Ask them about some of their transfer policies.
You need to stop worrying. This is what you need to do. Look at a catalog for USC. Create a course guideline for yourself (that goes semester-by-semester). Have backup classes on this course guideline as well. Review this with your counselor. That’s what I did.
