transfering from csu to uc

what are my chances of transfering from sdsu to a uc like ucla/cal? i am going to be a freshman next year, and assuming i had stellar grades, would there even be a chance? im just not sure if csu courses transfer over to the uc system or not.... im gonna call ucla tomorrow and ask but i wanted to see if any of you guys knew first. i need to sign up for classes in 2 days and i want to make sure the ones i take are transferable, if any are!

thanks

also, do colleges outside of the uc system have similiar or different transfer policies? i am also thinking of nyu, would there be any difference at a school like this?

hello there,

in all honesty, it isn't very easy to get in to a uc as a lower division (less than 60 units, usually reached once you complete your sophmore year) transfer student. i'm almost positive uc berkeley does not admit any lower division transfers, and i'm pretty sure ucla does not either so in order to have a shot, you would need to complete two years at sdsu. also, admission priority is given to community college students first, so those trying to transfer in from other colleges or universities may find that the process is a bit more difficult.

also, if you apply as a lower division transfer (elsewhere), your grades and scores from high school will be considered in addition to the grades you obtained in college. once you are a rising junior, you do not need to include these stats when you apply as a transfer.

i have heard that it is very difficult to find csu courses that will transfer over to a uc, but double check on that to be sure.

nyu is probably much different, especially since it is a private school and has no serious obligation or history of giving priority to community college or university students from the direct area.

good luck!

<3,

Izzie Bear

Its very possible but as izziebear mentioned be prepared to stay at sdsu for atleast two years before going to ucla or cal they def want 60 or more units before trasnferrring. as far as csu to uc if grades are up to par then your chances are good there have been many in this forum that got in to ucla from several csu's there is not a site to my knowledge like assist.org that articulates from csu to uc but your best bet is to read the course description from each catalog and if it sounds the same then its probably transferable I know some privates have articulation with csu's for example USC has an app that lets you see what class from your csu is equivalent to transfer into theirs. try finding one for ucla or berkeley I'm pretty sure there is one in existence.

itll be much easier transferring to a private school like nyu or usc or even an ivy if you had stellar scores.
