Transfering from GCC to CSUN?

I’m applying to CSUN this fall but I’m worried that I won’t be admitted because I haven’t completed my golden four yet. I have As in English, Speech and Critical Thinking, but I’m in a remedial math class and will take the transferrable Math (Statistics) over the winter session. I think as far as proximity I’m within the “local” range of Northridge, I live in Glendale… My counselor calculated my transfer GPA to be 3.82. What do you think my chances are of being accepted for Fall 2016?

Why are you just applying to CSUN. Why dont you try some UC’s. it seems like you’re doing well with a 3.8 gpa

My major is nutrition science, which isn’t offered in any of the UCs close to me (only Berkeley and Davis I think) and I can’t/don’t want to move because of my husband’s work…

And sadly, I’ve spent so many years at CCs both in CA and out of state and what LITTLE has transferred has put me right in line with the requirements for CSUN’s Nutrition and Dietetics program, almost to the “T” so to speak… CSULA is right behind, but they too have random requirements, such as economics (why the heck do I need to take that as a major req? Why?) Not to mention a handful of others… Plus I’ve been to CSUN multiple times and I love the vibe. It’s decently close by, affordable… Just overall, where I see myself.

Maybe for master’s I will venture out to a UC but it doesn’t make sense for me right now, esp fnancially. Plus, I have nearly all my CSU Breadth done with CSUN in mind, if I tried to complete IGETC (lol) it would take me at least 2 years. Completely different bio/chem/algebra track (which frankly, for my major I think it’s not needed because I’m not going into research and micro like the other “food science” tracks at Berkeley and whatnot)

Good answer!

Northridge has been heavily favoring local applicants (as I recall, one semester, they turned away ALL non-local applicants). As long as your school is on their list, you should be all set. If not, apply elsewhere.

It looks like GCC is on the list but, verify for yourself.

Good luck

Thanks! I’m still worried though, my advisor said I might be at the back of the line as far as priority goes because I don’t have the golden four completed yet (going to take stats over the winter break). Would they really priotitize someone with their golden four completed and a lower GPA than me?

yeah - there’s that… you gotta take the required classes. I thought that might go without saying.

Hmm, maybe you’re not understanding me. They’re planned, its not like I’m not taking them at all lol. You ARE allowed to have them in progress/planned but you’re required to have all requirements done by the end of the Spring Semester before you actually ATTEND. So I have until Spring 2016, since I’m applying for Fall 2015.

However, while its not required to have the Golden four (Math, English, Critical Thinking, Speech) done before you apply since you have until Spring, it MAY affect prioritization, and therefore affect chances of acceptance if there’s too many applicants.

A provisionary acceptance is usually issued for in progress requirements, but idk… hopefully my GPA would be considered over someone who completed the golden four since their requirements say it can be in progress anyway. Its just these small things like you only “need a 2.0 GPA” and you “Have until the Spring before you attend” I just want to see how it is in real life with people who have had this experience before. Lol
