This is kind of very premature on my part but I'll ask anyways since I regret not doing much research for my college applications.

I am an International applicant from Pakistan and I have applied to McGill's Mechanical Engineering Program and I am very confident that I will get in and in all probability get a scholarship as well. While McGill is indeed very good but it is no way near MIT and thats what I am aiming for.

I am wondering If I will have any chance of transfering to MIT after one year of study at McGill. I am relatively sure that I can maintain my GPA near 3.9/4.0. Is there anything else other than maintaining a very high GPA to have a good shot of getting into MIT. Become a part of honour programs? community service?

As far reccomendation letters are concerned, wouldn't it be weird asking for reference letters from MCGILL professors to go to MIT. If I dont end up going, wont the faculty look down at me?

In addition I'll be giving my Advanced Level Examination this June and will hopefully get all As which means that I can forgo the first year at McGill due to Advance Placement policies. Would it be wise for me to do so considering if I want to transfer to MIT?

Due to some innate moronic tendencies, I didnt really research well enough for many American colleges and only ended applying to Notre Dame on deadline day. I really wish I had been serious about my SATs, I could have had a fair chance of getting in good college in the US.

Because of the very high freshman retention rate, transfers to MIT are very rare, international transfers even rarer. I wouldn’t make any plans based on such an assumption. Get your undegraduate degree from MCGill, which is an excellent school, and go to MIT for grad school where you would have a much greater chance of admission.

I know its a longshot to transfer to MIT.I am not banking on it but there is no point in not trying… unless there is, in which case I am all ears. All I want to know is that will McGill provide me with a good enough platform to transfer to McGill and apart from a high GPA, what would one need?

Yeah, transferring is super hard, but if you want to try, go for it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You’re not likely to regret trying and failing, but you are likely to regret not trying at all. Just make sure you have realistic expectation, in other words, don’t get your hopes up too high.
