Transfering from ME to EECS?

Since I submitted my UC Application in the Fall, I realized that I might enjoy EECS more than Mechanical Engineering as a major. I really aspire to be on the forefront of innovation, creating the "next big thing" that will make peoples' everyday living easier and more efficient. I thought I would be best off majoring in Mechanical Engineeering to get a good grasp of the tenants of engineering, especially how I might make innovative ideas into working products. I later learned about Berkeley's famous (or is it infamous? ;) ) EECS program, which sounds awesome because it would allow me to study two fields that are seeing leaps and bounds in the speed of their innovation, and because, well, I love computers :)

That being said, if I am lucky enough to be accepted on the 28th, how hard would it be to switch from ME into EECS as a freshman? Also, is the major really THAT difficult? I know its a really selective major, but I have heard in some places that switching between two engineering majors is not incredibly hard. If it helps, I plan to take several CS classes anyway, so it would not bother me if I had to take classes with no guarantee of being able to switch into the major.

However, if you want to do mainly CS (as opposed to EE), another option is to switch to L&S and declare the L&S CS major. The L&S CS major is currently not capped (i.e. only a 2.0 GPA needed to declare after completing the prerequisites), but there have been rumors (due to the heavy enrollment in the CS 61 courses) that it will be capped in the future (i.e. with a higher GPA needed to declare).
