I was admitted into the department of pharmaceutical sciences at UCI, but I want to change my major to nursing. Is it difficult to change majors? I researched about this a bit, and many people online commented on how difficult it is to transfer.

Is it possible to change my major before starting my freshman year? Possibly through the phone or online?

The nursing program is very selective, so you can’t change majors; you have to be accepted. The only way to get into the program now would be to apply into it, and I believe that happens at the end of your second year. You have to fulfill the prerequisites, and even then you aren’t guaranteed into the program since many apply, but there are very few spots.

So the chances of being accepted into the nursing program are slim? Does that means I’d have to have a backup major in mind if I can’t get into the nursing program? Or do I just wait until a spot is open (assuming that I have all the requirements and prerequisites)?

I’m not very sure since I’m a of a different major. One of my roommates is trying to get into the nursing program, but since she doesn’t think she’ll get accepted (since her GPA dropped because of chem), she is considering either switching from undeclared to public health, or overall just transferring into a different university so that she can be in a nursing program. Hopefully a nursing student sees this and can help you. Sorry that I can’t be of much assistance :/
