transfering from uci?

i'll be a freshmen in the fall of 2010 at uci, and I love irvine and all
but my dream has always been LA.
so i'm hoping that i will be transfering out of uci and into ucla in 1~2 years.
any suggestions of who actually did
or any suggestions of what i should...at all.
who to talk to, what to do, what classes...
and i'm political science major.

yeah its pretty much impossible, If you really want to go there. You can be a “guest” or something for a year or so. You can drop out of uci and go to a CC instead and transfer there. Altough you are going to have to explain to ucla why you did that

I am sure there is a way. A friend of my daughter’s always dreamed of going to Berkeley. She really should have been admitted there as she was an amazing student. She was admitted to UCSC and went there for 2 years never giving up on her dream to go to UCB. She worked hard, got stellar grades and transferred to Berkeley as a junior. Also, when my daughter was admitted to UCLA (she is currently a sophomore) we went on a housing tour for admitted students. I remember there was a girl there who was transferring in after going to UCSB for 2 years. So it is not impossible. I would check out the transfer forum and contact UCLA as well. I am pretty sure the main UCLA website has a section for transfers. If you keep focused on the goal and write about your passion for UCLA in your application I don’t see why you couldn’t transfer. If it doesn’t work out you haven’t lost anything. If you don’t try you will forever wonder “what if”. Go for it!

It’s not impossible. It’s just improbable.

You have a much bigger chance of transferring to UCLA if you attend a community college first.

It’s not impossible…I’m actually doing the same exact thing. I entered UCI as a freshman in fall 2009 as a bio major and now I’m going to UCLA next year as a transfer. How many units are you going in with though? I came in with forty something AP units and took fifty some during the year which gave me enough. I fulfilled all the prereqs except for one semester of Ochem which they’re making me take during the summer before I go to UCLA. O ya I also forgot to mention that I got rejected but got in on appeal to ucla.

Hit me up if you have any questions…but give irvine a chance :stuck_out_tongue: haha

Some statistics:

thanks, you guys are so much more supportive than the post i left on the UCI page…;]
they all shot me down and said i should just drop out of UCI now for the kids who really want to be there…but i DO want to be there…it just that UCLA has alway been my dream.
and i don’t want to be wondering…what if i tried? you know
and i’m going in with, only 6 AP’s done…i dont know what exactly that is.
about 48?

Yeah, it’s not impossible. I know someone that transfered here from UCI, and my friend got accepted on a transfer from UCLA to Berkeley. The thing is that she rejected the offer, though – do you really want to transfer after spending 2 years at UCI making friends and being involved on campus (assuming that you will be)?
