I just graduated from high school and USC was my dream school. Unfortunately I got turned down and I think it was because of my gpa. I had 3.7 uw and 4.1ish weighted, sat 2100, good ECs (intern at nuclear reactor, etc). I'm headed to UW next year and I'm planning on majoring in either ChemE, CS, or Business. I'd like to transfer after my freshman year but do you think I'm just setting myself up for a let down? What would really help my chances of getting admitted as a transfer student? I've heard I have to take writing classes but is there anything else that could help my chance? Thanks guys.

good college GPA and completion of courses that satisfy USC GE and writing requirements. Decent essay probably would help too.

it's less like high school, where you apply and they look at a huge portfolio including grades, SAT, essay, letters of rec, EC's, etc., for transfer students they are looking for strong performance in college mainly.

My niece didn't get in straight from high school either. Instead she went to LMU for a year, got great grades, and got in as a transfer.

My advice: give UW a chance, you may love it; if not do well enough in school so that if you still want to go to SC, you have that option.

Good luck.

PS-'SC was my daughter's first choice too. She didn't get it and is going to UW instead. She's ready to embrace it and have a great time.

I have a friend who transferred to USC from UW. He hated it and only transferred because he really couldn't see himself going there for another 3 years. If you really want to go to USC, then definitely make the attempt to transfer. Don't give up completely on your dream.
