Ok, well i currently reside in NY and i got into a university in the west side of the US, so i decided to go there. Don't ask. MY H.S. GPA was not that impresive. actually it was just slighltly blow 2.5! BAD I NO!!! Im done with slacking and bought to put some real effort into my college studying life. Thing is

i want to transfer into Stony Brook after 1 semester. Im a freshman and just got out of H.S.

What are the min. requirements as in GPA to be able to get into Stony Brook as a transfer studnet just after 1 semester?
i no ill need to send over my HS Transscript and SAT/ACT Scores. but how about GPA wise.

How about if 1st semester in my current enrolled University i pull a much higher GPA for ex. 3.1 and above.

Im just lazy..time to fix that up! Thanks everyone!

also i heard FALL 2007, there was soo many applicants.. will there be any room for Spring 2008 transfer studnets?

For students who are coming in with less than 24 credits -- which it sounds like you will be -- we'll need to look back at your high school coursework also, and you'll need to meet our freshman requirements (generally a 3.0-3.5 HS GPA and a 1200/1600 SAT) as well as the transfer requirements.

As you noted, yes, we are full for Fall 07... we haven't made any decisions on Spring 08 yet, but considering how early we filled up this fall, we're likely to fill up very early for Spring too -- probably well before you'd have a chance to get updated grades to us.

Your best bet is to complete one full year of college coursework... out west, here in NY, wherever. Once you've completed 24 credits, we're generally looking for a 3.0 GPA (depending on your major). Once you have 24 credits, we don't look at your high school coursework, and don't require any standardized testing.

I'd say your best bet is to apply for Fall '08, because there won't be enough time or academic history for you to be admitted by the spring.

Hope this helps - if you have other questions, please let us know.

basicly i wont have a chance even if i pull a 3.4-8 GPA fall 2007 semester?

and why would it fill up before i get my scores sent out. 1st semester there finishes at december 12 or smthing i believe. i really want to get in for spring 2008.

i got rejected before. trying 2 apply straight from HS. wouldn't the really good score 1st semester show that im capable of something and willing to put some effort into it?

We never say "won't have a chance." However... we filled this fall a lot earlier than we anticipated; as a result, we're likely to defer a lot of folks who would have started this fall into the spring '08 class. That's why we're likely to fill up the spring class a lot earlier than we traditionally have. If we take in enough spring deposits by, say, November 15, then that's it; we can't fit any more students in. We've grown over the last few years, but we're reaching some sort of capacity, both in the classroom as well as in campus housing.

We're recommending that potential transfers apply for Fall '08 at this point; I'm not saying you can't apply for spring, because there might be space, but make sure you have a backup plan for the spring semester just in case.

As far as the one vs. two semesters thing goes, we'd rather see two solid semesters with at least 24 total credits than one solid semester, especially if your high school coursework isn't strong. If you have less than 24 credits, we're going to look at your high school grades and test scores. And if you don't meet those academic criteria, we're not going to be able to admit you. In your specific case, it sounds like both a time and an academic issue.

Ultimately, as Stony Brook has become more competitive, the application process and admissions requirements have become more strict, even for transfer students. (If anything, especially for transfer students, because there's a lot less transfer space than there is freshman space.) I'm not saying you won't ever be a Stony Brook student; I'm just saying it's not as easy as it seems on the surface.

Thanks alot Chris. Its good to hear news directly from college reps. I will still apply to Stony Brook for Spring 2008, and see how that goes. I'll also have some backups.

If you don't want to go out west maybe you should consider community college or checka nd see if SUNY Old Westbury or another SUNY campus might still be taking applications. Perhaps SB admissions officer could weigh-in on feasibiliby of transfering from these campuses.

Thing is that my family decided to move out west a while ago, so i decided to go to college there. Now it seems like theyre not moving. Im stuck there becuase of housing lease agreements and commited to that college already! It won't be so bad, change is fine. Ill just give it a shot after 1 semester, it shouldn't hurt me in anyway so why not!
