Transfering into Engineering Department

Does anyone know how difficult it is to transfer into the Engineering Department. I was accepted as Undecided although I applied to the Engineering Department. My decision to attend will be based on how difficult it may be to get into this department as I was accepted directly into other Engineering Programs. Any Feedback on this?

im in the same exact situation with you, applied mechanical engineering but got in as undeclared

all i could find was this link [The College of Engineering University of Massachusetts | On Campus Transfers](http://www-unix.ecs.umass.edu/index.pl?id=2459&isa=Category&op=show)

hope its not too difficult to transfer in :|

each engineering discipline has the requirement transfers on the website. contact the department head or administrator directly and ask them to get the best answers. the people there seem really open.

I spoke to a person in the Engineering Department. I asked what was required to transfer in. They said I can take all the same course as and Engineering Major, you just need to get the grades on those courses to officially transfer in by Soph year. I didn’t ask what the grade was until after I was off of the phone, but I am assuming it is a 3.0.

This is actually good new, because my brother got into Virginia Tech two years ago undecided and wanted to be in Engineering, and they wouldn’t let him take some key courses until the second semester which essentially sets you back a semester. I was afraid this might be the case with U Mass as well, but according to what I understood today, this is not the case with U Mass. I will confirm this when I go to an open house next Friday.

I hope this helps. I was actually really happy to hear this. The people in the engineering department seemed really nice and anxious to help. They said you can speak to an advisor there as well.

thanks for the helpful info!! Bel1250

i was having the same questions as you did and you made me feel better, so i think i should talk to an advisor from the department soon too and i hope we dont need to stay one semester back or even one year since we might not be able to talk some key courses. hope you can give us more helpful infos after you go to the open house

thank you!!
