Transfering into MSU

I was turned down from MSU coming out of a private high school with a 3.1 gpa and 28 act, with all AP and honor classes, i applied late october and was asked for first semester senior year grades which were 3.7 but unfortunatly too little too late.

I was wondering if anyone knew what the process would be like trying to transfer..i currently go to gvsu (grand valley state university) and am in the first semester of my sophmore year with a gpa of 3.5..on the msu transfer website it says that i have completed enough credits so i dont need to send in my hs grades (which is good) so would i get in with that gpa?
im a business major so would i need to apply directly to the business school?
what semester should i apply for?
if anyone has any information they think would help it would be greatly appreciated!

sorry if these questions have already been answeared in other threads im new to the site and dont really kno whats goin on

3.5 GPA is generally an in :). Just remember to apply a few months before the semester you want in. Oh and a heads up- I was talking to someone who transferred out of GVSU and is an art history major and had a bunch of issues trying to get her GVSU transcript sent to MSU for credit transfer purposes, so just make sure that you get on that right away so you don’t have issues like she did (she is trying to graduate this spring semester and is having major issues with one lab credit not transferring properly).

Best of luck :).

thanks for the response! so you dont think it would be too late to apply for this winter term? and also im pretty sure i have to write another essay, is that a make or break it kind of thing with a 3.5 transfer student or is that mainly for high school applicants?

(Fyi- we don’t have fall/winter, we have fall spring).

Generally, I would say yes… BUT it doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying.

Nothing’s make it or break it, but generally a 3.5+ is in for transfers (3.3-<3.5 = toss up and < 3.2 is reachy).

ok thanks last question how long does it usually take to get a response?

No problem. According to the website, it takes up to 12 weeks once everything is received (if I recall correctly).

I am not sure of the actual wait time. Perhaps Punk can chime in on this since she transfered.
