Transfering into NYU

Hmmm well, I know there's a lot of topics about it here, and I posted a similar one on the Chances? forum but I might as well post it here...

Basically, I'm an Asian male (yeah I know, against me :'( ) and I'd like to transfer into Stern

I'm a Freshmen at Western Michigan University and I'd love to go to NYU...

My freshmen GPA... lacking a lot. 3.0 unweighted. I had alot of personal problems from Freshmen to Junior year, and finally taken care of Summer of Junior year when my GPA shot back up to a 3.6 (first semester) and 3.8 (2nd semester) of my Senior year

However, that didn't really save my GPA. (Hence why I'm going to only a medium college)

My ACTs, were hovering around 27, and I plan to retake it and hopefully hit over 30s. I've done it before on multiple practice, so with some studying in, I bet I can pull it off.

My college GPA so far, hasn't been submitted yet... (first semester isn't done!) but I suspect around a 3.8-4.0. I'm working my butt off to hold a 4.0 and I'm pretty sure I can get it done, or at least close. (If I don't, I probably won't apply)

I can get some good recommendations, and some good essays (I have 2 english majors proofreading my work!)

That being said, my ECs are

-volunteering in the community
-worked as an intern overseas in Hong Kong/Shenzhen, China for the summer
-violin section leader, and traveled overseas to Europe in the summer to play for Mozart's birthday
-and if I get accepted, volunteer over the summer to go to different countries to help out with 3rd world countries
-played tennis in high school, JV - 2nd singles
-other various orchestral activities like shows independent of normal concerts
-leader of quartet that got 1st divison at competitions (not really worth much... very easy to get 1st division)

I'm taking the most rigorous courses I can, which is actually somewhat limited by my courses (Pre-Business course)

Any chance? Or should I not even try and save my app money?

If anyone has ANY advice at all and can hit me up on instant messinger sometime, that'd be amazing...

thanks!

Standardized test scores are fairly important should you apply for sophomore standing. Regardless, Stern is still extremely difficult to transfer into given an excellent first year. But don't let that discourage you. You definitely have a shot and it'll end up being more of a crapshoot if anything, for sho for sho. (And try posting this in the transfer forum if you haven't already)
