In highschool I did very poorly with somthing like a 2.3gpa and a 1000 on the SAT. I am currently at a state school looking to transfer into tulane next fall. I have spoken to an admissions officer over the phone who told me that after two semesters (33.5 credits) tulane wouldnt place very little weight on highschool, if they even looked at it at all.

After this year my expected cumulative gpa will be around a 3.2, what do u think my chances of transfering are?

My gpa is sort of misleading, first semester my major was biology and it is now political science, this semester my gpa will be about a 3.8+ possibly a 4.0. Do you think tulane will place more weight on this semester considering it is my intended major with them?

Speaking as a current student, I don't think you should worry that much. I don't think they will necessarily put more weight on one semester over another, but even with a cumulative gpa of 3.2, you should be okay, and if you explain why your gpa was lower it will help.

However, if you want to major in political science, I want to forewarn you that the department is very small and there are very few classes. Tulane is best for students studying engineering, business or medicine.

I think your upward trend is very nice. A real point in your favor.

The one thing I would suggest you check is how much of a factor (if any) your SATs will be (do you even have to submit them?). If they will be a factor and they will consider re-takes after college matriculation, you might consider that - as much of a pain as it is.

They told me that after a full year of college that my HS and SATs would not count for as much, if they even looked at them at all, but the application still wants me to submit them. My SATs worry me though considering how Tulane typically places alot of weight on test scores, or atleast thats what i'v heard.

And as for my major, I am actually planning on doing a double major with political science and political economy, which I hear tulane has a good program in.

I think i heard that somewhere, the thing that scares me is that tulane has been talking about getting unusually high number of applicants this year, meaning more competition, but i would assume that transfering in would be a little easier since it wont affect their incoming freshman statistics.
