Hi everyone I am currently a sophomore who is looking to transfer into UCLA for my junior year of college from Chapman University in Orange County. I am also a tv major at Chapman's film school which has become a highly ranked film school. I also have at the moment a 3.5 gpa but in hopes to raise it even higher. I was wondering that if I am trying to transfer into UCLA's film school, a school where last year alone they only took 15 transfer students out of like 500, would coming from a good film school help my chances?..and what else would I need to increase my chances. If anyone knows anything about transferring into UCLA and also into their film school that would help so much! Thanks!

I’m a current film major at UCLA and I would advise you stay at Chapman. Trust me.

^Can you elaborate on that at all?

^^^^Bump. :P

Hi, I was just wondering why your telling me to stay at Chapman. I thought that UCLA has the better reputation as far the film and tv productions goes

Maybe it’s because of the uncertaintly of the UCs right now. There will be a student strike (3 day strike) this month about the fee increases and there are a lot of cutbacks coming down the tubes. There is no guarantee that whatever you want to major in will not be affected. Though, personally, I think the science and engineering departments will be least affected and humanities the most affected.

Chapman has a fine reputation, but it is an incredibly expensive school. If you are trying to save money, then I can understand your decision to want to transfer. The UC situation may not affect you so much if you are coming in you Junior Year. I think it will definitely have a strong impact on next year’s class and those that follow. California’s real estate is getting smacked down again and the decrease in taxes has a direct impact on the public school system.

lagunal nailed part of it. The film school’s budget has been cut and there will no doubt be more cuts. I’m also pretty sure Chapman has better facilities than UCLA’s. Yup, just checked and by reading on [Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University](http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/Facility/) I can tell you that your facilities are way better. In all honesty, UCLA’s stuff is ancient and it is such a hassle to get anything done (checking out equipment, using the facilities, etc). Plus, as an undergrad you are treated as second class to the mighty grad students who are put on a golden pedestal.
