Transfering into UNC-CH from American University??

Hello!

I'm a NC resident, going to attend American University as a freshman, starting this fall.
I want to transfer to UNC-CH starting my sophomore year, and am wondering what I should do this year, to ensure that I get accepted as a transfer. Any specific types of classes/course load? Activities?

Is it easier to transfer into UNC? Any opinions/advice?

Why go to American at all? Why don’t just take a gap year, and apply to UNC-CH for freshman admission? If you have scholarship potential, you will get much better aid that way.

I already applied for freshman admission to chapel hill and got denied, so I figure it would be a waste anyways since nothing would have changed in the gap year. I figure with a good GPA from a good school, I might have a better shot with transfering and all?
