transfering into Upenn from Emory

Hey,
I'm a student at Emory in Atlanta, GA. I want to transfer to Upenn.
My high school GPA was 3.7, 4.4 weighted. I got 1380 on the SAT.

I found this stat on college board.com:
* Total number of transfer students who applied: 1,543
* Total number of transfer students who were admitted: 336

Ill probably pull a GPA of 3.5-3.85 my first semester here at emory. My extracurriculars are good and I'll probably get good recs and stuff. I'm a little worried about the dean letter thing....I don't even know my dean. What should I do about this part of the application?

Also, where do the transfer applicants come from???? The applicants applying to Upenn can't come from schools much better than Upenn. I feel it is unlikely that applicants will come from other Ivys so it leaves only a few schools that are ranked higher than Emory. How are my chances from Emory?

In truth, the quality of the college is far from being the top factor in transfer admissions - the top factors are college and high school records. Yes, it is better to have gotten a high gpa at a top school (although they will take grade inflation or deflation into account) but it is not a huge advantage, especially over someone at a school in the top 50. I believe there are many inter-ivy and top 20 school transfers. So in other words, you will probably need to get a GPA on the higher end of the possible range you gave this semester. So the factors to keep in mind are: high school gpa and scores and extra curriculars-- probably number 1 factor as a freshman, followed by college grades, then compelling transfer essay, then college extra curriculars, then college recs. I am thinking about applying for transfer from emory to upenn (and some other schools) and am a sophomore.

I had an ex-boyfriend transfer from CMU to Emory then to NYU then back to Emory (graduated Emory '03)...So, I know both of those transfers are possible. I don't know what his GPA was, but likely quite high for both transfers. Don't know of your chances, but it looks worth the money to send the application!

Just curious. What's prompting the transfer?

penn and emory are very similar as far as campus culture, academics and people from new jersey :)

wow, it seems like everyone at emory is trying to go ivy league here.
