Transfering Schools Cinema Studies

I am currently a freshman at New York University and I do not think that I will be able to afford the price for all four years that I would be attending. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good midwestern school (preferably Ohio or any state near it) with a good program in Cinema Studies. This would help a lot. I know that Ohio State is relatively good but I grew up in Columbus and would prefer to look for other institutions first.

Are you looking for a better financial aid package or just a school with a cheaper sticker price? Those are two completely different scenarios. If your family circumstances have changed significantly since you last applied for fin/aid, there are a whole host of colleges that may be more generous with aid than NYU and share similar quality. I guess the question is whether the shift in college will be worth the shift in quality, especially in an area that is one of NYU’s specialties?

It doesn’t matter whether a school has a better financial aid package or a lower sticker price, I just need a school with a low total cost. And, hopefully, a school that has a cinema studies program that is not a huge step down from NYU’s.

basically cheap but good

Cinema studies and not film-making?

Wisconsin is great for film studies. Not so for production.Much cheaper than NYU.

It doesn’t matter whether a school has a better financial aid package or a lower sticker price, I just need a school with a low total cost.

???

What is your budget? how much can you (or your parents) pay each year?

And…are you instate for Ohio or Michigan? Your state schools are likely going to be your affordable choice.

Maybe USC if you have high stats.

Last year, you were choosing between MSU (for low debt) and NYU (with high debt)…you went with NYU. What happened with MSU?

MSU doesn’t really even have a program

and im instate for ohio

Does Ohio have your major at any of its state schools?

It know for sure that Ohio does at OSU, BGSU, and like a Denison which is good on financial aid. However I’m not to keen on going to OSU because that is where I grew up, and I do not want to take a severe downfall in the academic prowess of a school.

*I got into NYU with a 28 ACT, a 1880 SAT *

???

Why do you think that OSU would be such a big academic step downward? I don’t think that’s true. Your stats aren’t that high.

Your stats aren’t even in the upper 25% of OSU. Your stats would be average for the school.

OSU Test Scores
Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: 540 - 650
SAT Math: 580 - 690
SAT Writing: 540 - 640
ACT Composite: 25 - 30

Besides, it may be all that you can afford. Transfer students don’t get much aid.

Wright State U has motion picture production and motion picture history/theory. Less expensive that tOSU.

I heard that Ohio University has a great production program. Check out the posts from digmedia or maybe PM him. His son recently graduated from there.
