Transfering schools

Hey everyone. I haven't actually been admitted to NYU yet, but I was wondering how hard it is to transfer schools there. I'm applying to CAS, but was wondering how hard it would be to transfer to Steinhardt for their musical theater school after freshman year. Would I have to audition as a transfer student? Or is it not even possible to get into that after freshman year? Thanks for your imput.

Students may apply for an internal transfer once they have completed one full year at NYU. Transfers are not guaranteed and are dependent on how the student is doing in their classes and most importantly, whether there is room in the program. Yes, you would have to audition for Steinhardt MT. Internal transfers into this program are extremely rare because the program is very small. It would be difficult to transfer in at a sophomore level because it is a music intensive program. NYU advises against planning on internal transfers and that's why they strongly recommend that you originally apply to the program you are interested in.

Thanks the for reply alwaysamom. I didn't originally try out because I wasn't really sure I wanted to devote all my education to music. I was just wondering if I had second thoughts later on what I could do. I understand how difficult it would be though.

You will be allowed to. Transferring into schools like Steinhardt and the School of Social Work is incrdibly simple and a request almost never gets denied.
