Transfering to a better university

What if a student attending say, George Washington, Loyola College in Maryland, or American University decides he needs more of a challenge and wants to transfer to Georgetown, Duke, Hopkins, Yale or Princeton to name a few?

Say this student has a 3.8+ gpa
and tons of extracurriculars
and intern experience.

Is it possible to transfer into one of the above universities after freshman year?

Reason being I only have 1 SAT II and I accidently chose the SAT I for this date by mistake. Should I try to change this or go ahead with it, or what?

Are you a senior in high school who won't get into those schools this year so you are going to one of the first few and hoping to transfer? If you aren't qualified for admission to Duke or Gtown, don't assume that you won't be challenged at Loyola or GW. And, you will probably not be able to transfer into those "tougher" schools very easily. Ivies.. no way.

the problems a complicated one

I have the sat scores to get into the ivies, the extracurriculars, but not the gpa.

I hated my school, and everything they tried to get me to do, so I started cutting class and started working for local politicians, and taking side courses on political science at yale.

So yes, I'm hoping to go to one of these schools for the first year or two, and then transfer some where else. Of course I dont know the future, I may love it at my first school and stay. As of right now though, I really want to be at a high caliber school, because that's where I belong.

I'm in the same position, except I didn't do as well in highschool as I should have to get into the "extremely difficult" college.

not Princeton; they don't accept transfers

you should check out the transfer forum. people in your position transfer into top universities quite often, but if your GPA is truly dreadful, you may end up needing to spend two years at your first college to build up a better academic record.

you can apply after your freshman year, but realize that your high school grades still make up a large part of your academic record at that point, so your good college GPA wouldn't easily balance out your bad high school record. It is, however, very possible, as I know several people on CC that have transferred from schools of far less prestige than GW into the schools you've mentioned.

P.S. Duke and Yale are practically impossible to transfer into, so don't expect much. Georgetown and Hopkins would be more practical, and Princeton is a whiny little **** that won't let any transfers in.

I hate to post on someone elses board but, do colleges still look at your highschool grades, standardized scores if you plan to transfer in Junior year? They just don't weight as heavily? x.x It probably depends on the school though... right?
