Transfering to Boston University

I just began my freshman year of college at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. The thing is this: I already know I don't want to stay here for anymore than I have to. I've started looking at schools I want to transfer to, and I've pretty much narrowed it down to two: UMass Amherst and Boston University. BU remains the favorite though.

In high school, my grades were average the first two years. I picked up the slack my last two, taking harder classes and getting better grades. My SAT is only a 1700. I know..it's nothing to be proud of. Here is my question:

a)Should i try and retake the SAT or take the ACT for my application for next fall?

b) Also, if I maintain what I am now, (3.6-3.7ish), then are my chances good for getting accepted? I'm also doing a few clubs, playing varsity tennis, and going to do some community service when opportunity presents itself.

a) Don’t really need to retake the SAT. SAT matters not for transfers.

2) 3.6/3.7 is competitive for both UMass/BU. Clubs don’t matter too much.

I would suggest UMass Amherst rather than BU. BU is a good school in a great city but it is mediocre with financial aid and scholarships. It is worth applying though, but really don’t expect anything. I don’t think a BU education is worth $30k/year more than a UMass education and employers are generally not too much more impressed with BU. Public schools in MA (esp. UMass-Lowell) are somewhat underrated.
