Transfering to public schools as an out of state aplicant

Should I retake my sats (1390/1600, 2090/2400) if i am going to attempt to apply as a transfer to William & Mary, UNC-Chapel Hill and UVA (specifically William and Mary) as an out of state applicant

hs gpa 3.6 and I plan on working my arse off for a 4.0 in college

We need more information: How many years do you plan on staying?

Why do I ask? Colleges have different procedures depending on how many credits you've earned. For example, UNC does not require SAT scores if you will start as a Junior (60+ credits). They will look only at your college and HS transcripts at that point, with greater emphasis placed on the former.

And as a general point: contact admissions officers at these universities. Explain your situation and plans; ask them whether they recommend re-taking the SAT.

I would say don't retake the SAT. I got appx the same as you with a low-ish high school gpa, did well in my first semester of college and got into UVA and WM as an out of state transfer.

For transferring I'd worry more about doing well in college and ESSAYS! Essays show much more than SATs.

For UNC-CH, the school does not differentiate between in-state and out-state applicants for transfer students. Your chances of getting in UNC are pretty high as long as your GPA us good enough. They usually admit almost 40% for their transferring class.

Thank you all for the help
to reply to Jahn- I plan on staying at my school for a year and then attempting to transfer for fall 2009.

Would this be wise? Would it be better if i wait to apply as a second semester soph or a junior?
