Transfering to State School from PCC

I have unique circumstances I am concerned about. I am currently in my mid twenties. When I first graduated high school I attneded local community colleges and did horribly. I transfered to a different one after the initial school to be with friends. As I said before, I did HORRENDOUS. I was not motivated, compelled or interested in school. I mostly did it because I was on my parent's dime and they made me. After a couple years of being a terrible student I enlisted in the military. After serving I have started going to a local community college in a different state and have a 3.5 GPA and am looking forward to applying to trasnfer to a local state school. I know I have to list all my previous colleges attended and have official transcripts mailed when applying...will this destroy me chances for admisssion? I have completed the university "assured admission" requirement and all but I am afraid they are goign to take one look at my transcripts from when I was just a dumb kid right out of high school and a screw up and deny me. I really have showed vast improvement. Any insight? I was tempted to not tell them about my previous schools but I felt it was necessary to be honest despite it probably hurting or destroying my chances for admission.

If you have completed the “assured admission” requirements, that is good enough. In fact, that is exactly what articulation agreements are for - to make sure you get in even if you have some ugly stuff in your academic record.

Yes it is true that you are obligated to provide official copies of your old transcripts, but please don’t worry about them too much. Your new good grades are what really matter.

You aren’t the only veteran who has this kind of record. It might make you feel a bit better if you read through some of the threads in the Veterans sub-forum. You can find it in the College Admissions Forum under the heading “Specialty College Admissions Topics” Here is a link for you: [Veterans - College Confidential](Veterans - College Confidential Forums)

Wishing you much success in your civilian life!
