transfering to texas A&M

hi. I graduated highschool with a marginal gpa in Tucson Arizona. Moved to Houston and here I am finishing up my Associates degree in applied science for Automotive technology/repair in which i have maintained a 4.0gpa.

^^My hope is that this remains irrelevant, and doesn't negatively affect my chances of being accepted to Dwight Look's mechanical engineering program at TAMU, and the reason I say this is because my a&m advisor told me about the fact that the admissions judges will be looking at the fact that i have SO MANY (roughly 70 or so) unaffiliated college credits, that I may not qualify as much as other students would...

This scares me, cause Iv been working hard to make it almost a conditional automatic acceptance to a&m by keeping my grades up.

This fall I will be attending blinn college in order to get my transfer credits required for the dept of engineering at a&m so i can even qualify for transfer admissions. I understand that i've gotta keep a high gpa to stay competitive, but no one ever said that i might not get in JUST BECAUSE i have ALOT of (workbased)college credits.

Any insight? I would really appreciate it.

-also, why am i getting my associates in automotive in the first place? I am a car guy.. but a relatively "studious" one.. I want to have a foundation for engineering with a hands on perspective of mechanics in general, and nothing says mechanics like working in a shop with a real education, where I deal with these things daily.. (sort of like learning how to ride a bike before you learn how to ride a motorcycle, with the understanding that automotive and engineering are 2 completely different fields of expertise. ps. i am a part time automotive technician.
