Transfering to the University of Illinois; will I get in?

I currently am enrolled in a community college in Illinois. I have a descent GPA..nothing to brag about really at the moment. I currently am at 2.88. After this semester (fall 2010) that should go up to about 3.0-3.2 as I am anticipating a few better grades this semester. I am currently around 40 credit hours. . . . I think. I do need to mention I do have some blemishes on my transcript...I have retaken a couple classes and withdrew out another.

The reason why I desire to transfer to U of I is because I have enjoyed my visits there, and have several friends there. As well as the university being recognized all over the country.

I am pursing a career as a PA. Physician assistant. For most programs, they require a bachelors degree and some prereq courses. So technically speaking....I can pretty much major in anything, as long as I take those prereq science classes and obtaining a bachelors degree.

A few things I need advice on...
I really am tired of being at this community college...with a 2.88 do I have a chance to maybe even transfer for the spring semester 2011? Being that I can major in anything, would that help my chances in getting in?

Another question is, am I better off going to a lesser school academically? I need to make sure I maintain a pretty good GPA while attending U of I so i can ensure I can get into some PA programs after college.

Any insight/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

THANKS !

A 2.88 is a little low for UIUC, but if you do well this semester and can pull off a 3.0 or better, you may have a decent shot. What you should really focus on is you transfer essay. I’m trying to get into the Business program, and although not what you’re going into, I’ve learned that essays will either “make or break” your application. So do well this semester and write stellar essays. Good luck to you!
