Transfering to UCLA/UCB..Do I have a chance??

major: anthropology B.A.
IGETC: completed
Pre-req's: completed (there is only 3)
GPA: 3.8 transferable
EC/Awards: Dean's List, Relay For Life, Blood donor
Units: 60

I am transfering from a CCC too!! Do you guys think I have a good chance of getting into either college? I prefer Cal, But I'd love UCLA too!! Or should I not apply?

You can get into both, just apply now =D. Remember to write a good personal essay.

thank you :)!! Im so nervous! lol

Good luck, btw take a campus tour

your gonna get into CAL and UCLA...

does "blood donor" really count as an EC/Award? if it does that's cool...but it looks like a bad space filler to me

Yeah, seriously... blood donor? Can I put sperm donor down as an EC on mine if I donate some?

egg and sperm donations are where 90% of communications majors get their money, the other 10% are either tricked into pyramid schemes or become vice presidential nominees

....with those chances, I might switch to mass comm....

lol ok ok maybe ill leave out blood donor...but that does require pain lolllll so my chances look good??

yeah yeah your chances are good, now stop stressing, get off this site, and go breath some fresh air....cuz the only way that your not going to get into UCLA or Cal is by saying you're Osama bin Ladin in your personal statement and that you sacrificed your blood and sperm for extra curricula's.

LMAO @ Blood Donor.

Make sure to list "Excellent Driver", and or "Good Personal Hygiene"

How about "Pilates Freak"

don't forget to add the favorite of admissions officers... "Read all the Harry Potter Books"

blood donor? that is classic

He took it off his latest thread. He really should have kept it on there.

from my understanding...ucla and ucb don't really care about EC's if you are a transfer. I heard it's only for people coming out of high school. is that true?

Yeah, completely true.

I just met with a UCLA rep. one on one yesturday and I asked "Do you want to know my EC's?" so that I could get a better idea of my chances. She flat out said "Your GPA is high enough, we won't even look at your EC's when you apply, so no. Basically, EC's are for when you GPA is lower than the average admitted (since that is the easiest measurement to go by) and you need a little boost to help make your application stand out.

She was lying. But hey, don't listen to me...

If you're missing even one Pre-req, you will not be admitted. I was well above the average admit GPA for my major last year (3.6) mine (3.8), it happened to me. If there's a 100 places next year, 1000 applicants, odds are they'll find someone out there who has a GPA as strong as yours, and probably has the EC's that you're missing. They will get in, you will not.

Jokes on them, i just applied to see if I could get in. Was never planning on going. Turns out I couldn't, ha!

yea my counselor said the same...I asked, "what about my Ec's or community service?" And she said that all they do is give you a big pat on the back and say, "awwwww." She said that is more for high school and what you need the most is a high GPA, IGETC, and all your pre-req's complete and you are good

It depends on the competitiveness of the major. If you're looking into a competitive program, then of course it will be the case that they will have hypothetically 900 applicants for 400 seats, of which say 150 are automatically rejected for either not meeting the igetc, pre-reqs, or 60 units. Then another 150 are rejected for having sub-par GPAs. That leaves 600 qualified people for 400 seats. How do you shave people off now? You differentiate between the people who didn't do jack but schoolwork, and the ones that balanced schoolwork and other significant things (like donating blood).
