Transfering to UVA from Mary Washington

I was Deffered from early Decision at UVA( Im instate) but I recently got in to The University of Mary Washington's honor program. If I don't get into UVA, and I go to Mary Wash, Is it practical to think I could transfer to UVA after the first year? This is assuming that I do have good grades my freshman year. And If so, do I need to have a 4.0 or will a 3.3-3.5 be enough?

LOL, you certainly don't need a 4.0 to transfer into UVA from UMW. I've talked to transfer students here who had anywhere between 3.1 and 3.9 from other state schools. I think you'd have an excellent shot with a 3.5 from UMW, but, as always in admissions, higher is better. Do as well as possible your first two semesters, and you should have a good shot.

Can I work it so start my sophmore year at UVA, or will I probably have to spend another semester there? also, When should I do the transfer application? Right after the first semester , or later?

Yes, you can apply to UVA after your first year at UMW and enter in the fall of '07 as a second year.

This is just my opinion, but maybe you should enter a school freshman year that you like rather than with the mentality that you will be switching after a year. The college experience is more than just academics so it might be best to enjoy all 4 years while they last rather than spending the first year somewhere you are planning to leave before you even step on campus. Just my thoughts...good luck RD at UVA though.

I really like Mary Washington, but they don'tt have a mandrin program like UVA. This I s my major reason for transfering
