Transfering to UVA & UNC

Hey everyone, how are you? I am currently a 1st year student at Villanova Univ (w/ a sophomore standing -- 32 Credits). I am looking to transfer to UVA and UNC-Chapel Hill for the Fall of 2005. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it's worth applying, b/c I am from New York, so in both cases, I will be an out-of-state applicant. Here's my info:

In the college of commerce and finance -- finance/economics double major; minor in mathematics

First semester GPA: 3.73

Classes & Grades for 1st semester:
--Business Calc B+ (reverse curve killed me)
--Intro to Micro A
--Core Humanities seminar A-
--Intro to Italian A-
--Legal Env of Business A

Dean's List....

Second Semester Classes:

--Intro to Financial Accounting
--Intro to Macro
--Intro to MIS
--Core Humanities Seminar
--English Comp
--Business Calc II

Lots of activities and one leadership role in college.

SAT's - 620 M/570 V, both times i toook it
ACT's - 30 E/28 M/ 34 R/ 25 S

High school GPA: 3.82; graduated with honors in top 15% of class (out of 350)

Had a lot of leadership roles/sports in high school...

I am really looking to write a few REAL good essays for these apps.

THANKS A LOT!

PS. Anyone familar with the UVA app, how long should the the supplement questions be (NOT the formal essay where u have to pick one of the 3 choices). For instance, one of them is "why are you leaving your school and why do u want to come to UVA?" Mine are about a page long for each question but I am not sure if they want a formal essay.

Your stats are very similar to my daughter's, except that she's in-state and currently attending UMD. Both UVA and UNC are very difficult to get into from out-of-state, but it's certainly worth a try. On the UVA app, my daughter is only doing a paragraph for all the responses, with the exception of the essay. I don't think they'll take the time to read a page per response because they have so many apps to review...just my opinion.

thanks...bump. anyone else?

Actually, you should stand a very good chance of getting into UNC. I think the main factor is if you are transferring as a freshman or sophmore. I have heard that it is much harder transferring as a freshman than it is to transfer as a sophmore. Also, I am pretty sure if you are transferring that it doesn't matter whether your in state or out of state.

"Also, I am pretty sure if you are transferring that it doesn't matter whether your in state or out of state."

That may be true for UNC, but it definitely isn't true for UVA.

UNC drops its quota for out of state students for transfers. So basically I think you have a good chance there.

I think you will have no problem getting into UNC, because they are usually look for a 3.5 and above
