I am thinking about transfering to UVA after my freshman year in college. I originally wanted to go there, but my parents thought the distance was too much (I live in New York)

Does anyone know if it's hard to transfer into UVA? Or have any information that might be helpful reguarding transfer students?

It's probably easier if you're applying after two years than if you're applying after one, particularly if your HS transcript wasn't too impressive. You'll also need a fairly high GPA - probably 3.7 or above.

first semester, aim for all A's.... think about it in high school you have to work 4 years to get ur stats up to par for this college. But if they are short you just need to work hard for one semester and you have a very good shot.

Well, I'm going for a Nursing major, so I have to transfer after my freshman year...what about letter or recommendations and extra curriculars? are those important? because thats one of my strongest areas. I was extremely involved in high school.

I applied as a transfer student after one year. I took 37 credits and earned a 4.0. I got waitlisted, but they havent seen 18 of those credits cuz i took them in the spring, but i sent them in about a week ago. im also taking 8 credits over the summer. hopefully ill get in.

PrimeTime21, what school are you trying to transfer in from? And did they tell you why they waitlisted you? Also, are you a Virginia resident, or from out-of-state? Lastly, what major are you planning to take?

I'm asking all of this because I'm interested in just how tough it is to get in as a transfer student from another college.

I'm sure it's pretty subjective. But, unless things have recently changed, I believe they still prefer 2nd year transfers a little more than 3rd years. 2nd year transfers are at the school longer.

If you wait until after your second year, and get rejected, you might have some difficulty. Plus, if you qualify after you complete 24 credit hrs why not start applying? If you get rejected the first time, and reapply after your second year, you'll be showing a strong desire to attend.

Although, I do agree with what you said if someone is trying to fix a weak HS record.

I think it will be a little harder to tranfer from OOS with the advent of their guaranteed transfer program with the VCCS.

I guess it depends, spicoli. I'm just going on what I've seen from transfer applicants that I've known. It seems like people who had weak HS transcripts and OK college GPAs (in the 3.0-3.5 range) got in after their second year, while those who were borderline for UVA in the first place and got 3.5+ GPA's after their first year got in at that time. It can be random sometimes, but the good thing is that you can try multiple times.

I just found out that i got in as a first year transfer. anyone can send me a private message if they wanna no how i did it. I am pretty shocked that i got in though.
