I attended a college last year for one semester, I could not finish there because i ran into personal and financial difficulty. I owe them 3k. I only took 12 credits during that semester but of course they will not release my transcripts until that $ is payed off. I am trying to work out a payment plan with their 3rd party collection agency, but it will take some time before i pay it all off.

I want to go to a community college or another college that would be cheaper (one that financial aid can cover all $)

my question it, colleges usually ask for official transcripts from ALL colleges attended, can I go to a new school without that particular transcript? This isn't a problem for me because i can retake the one class that would be applicable to my RN degree.

Most colleges ask for ALL the official transcripts and won’t process you without it. You might be able to enroll as a non matriculating student and take courses that way without ANY transcripts, but to be accepted as a matriculating student, you will need that transcript and if you have let them know on any paper work that you went there, you will be asked for it.

Also if you took any financial aid at that previous college, you may not get anymore aid until you go through a process if your grades were subpar or if you withdrew or failed courses. That will be on record with FAFSA.
