I’m getting ready to apply for transfer this coming fall and wanted some idea as to what my chances are to getting into my desired schools. I’m hoping to get into a UC because it would be much easier for me. I currently have a GPA of 3.16 which I know is pretty low, but I am hoping to get up within this upcoming year. I’m majoring in Business Finance and go to berkeley city college at the moment, near UC berkeley. I’m hoping to get into UCB, UCLA, UCSB, or UCSD. I have some out of state options also but I want to get an idea of what my chances are at these schools based on my current situation. I still have two more pre-req classes to take.
A 3.16 makes all the schools you list pretty unlikely. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply - but, be sure to apply elsewhere too.
Since you apply before your Fall 15 grades are in, your current GPA is how you’ll be evaluated.
It may be a little late but, a couple of A’s in summer classes might bump your GPA up a bit.
Here in CA, CSUs like Sac and Sonoma have solid business programs and are likely to accept you.
Good luck.
Agree with @NCalRent that the UC’s on your list will be hard with your GPA. I would add UCI and UCR and some Cal States to your list. Good luck
Hi, which grades will UCs look at? My current institution is a semester system, so I will get my Fall 2015 grades in December… Do I send them my freshman year grades plus, fall 2015 and spring 2016 grades?
The application deadline is in November so, they’ll only look at what’s on the books at that time. If you are borderline, they may ask for your fall semester grades in January - but that is not too common. After you are admitted, they will ask for you full transcripts and confirm you took the courses you promised and maintained the required GPA. Failure to do either will allow them to rescind your admission.
Make sense?
I just called transfer admissions office and they said they will consider both freshman year grades and fall 2015 grades. Then once admitted, they will ask for your spring grades. I’m really hoping they look into my fall 2015 grades because I didn’t do too hot my freshman year.
Transferring with a lowish (sub 3.0) GPA is tough. Use TAG if you can and be sure to apply broadly, including a couple CSUs to keep your options open.
