I have a friend who really wanted to go to UW but was rejected. He is going to go to an in state school and focus on his academics so he can potentially be accepted next year. How difficult is it to transfer to UW after a year at another school, out of state?

crazieshnurple,
I will let you know ( decisions will be mailed out in a few weeks) because i am an out of state student hoping to transfer to UW. I applied for summer quarter though. Shoot me a message on here if you don't hear back from me in a couple weeks so i don't forget!

I hear it's very hard, almost impossible to transfer into UW as OOS. It's even hard to transfer in as an in-state. Some community colleges have a higher transfer in rates than others, so some students go to Bellevue Community College, then try to transfer from there.

Plus, UW is such a huge school. Most friendships develop among freshmen. It's very hard to break in coming from the outside.

I agree with portlandparent. If he is really set on UW, advise him to go to community college for a few years, and then try and transfer. It is much easier to transfer into UW from a instate community college than another four year college.
