Victor5555: Thanks for the encouragement. If I go strictly off of stats for last year admissions, the average for wo. studies is 3.5 which makes me hopeful.

redoplease:
I’m glad someone understands! My best friend applied to cal states and is already accepted and all my other friends never went through this.
Also, housing is an issue for me because I live in Rancho Cucamonga which, without traffic, is an over an hour to UCLA and about an hour flat to UCI. If I get accepted to either I will have to move. I have a sweet deal living at home, but my car is pretty much on its way out and can’t handle that commute. Especially with traffic, it makes each drive closer to 2/2 1/2 hours, and I am just not willing to do that.
With that said, the transfer housing at UCI is awesome, though a little expensive. Studio apts at 1100, but with everything included. UCLA housing I haven’t looked into but I have found a number of places within 20 minutes of the campus. I just really don’t want to live in Los Angeles. The parking/crowds/price/lack of nature and quiet doesn’t appeal to me.

What about you? You applied to UCB and where else?

Haha I’m doing the same… I even have my minors picked out. If I get into UCLA I’m going to do the Film minor or Global Studies. UCI I will do the Film & Media Studies minor. I’ve also looked into class schedules and looked up professors on Ratemyprofessor lol

UCIhopeful: I am actually Citrus. I started there when I lived in Pomona/La Verne and stayed because I knew I wouldn’t get priority registration if I switched to Chaffey.

If you go to UCI are you going to commute or move? I’m also curious if you liked Chaffey. One of my friends was accepted out of Chaffey to UCLA and UCB and she loved the CC.

Ahhh… I totally have transferitis at the moment. I’m also doing a full time course load due to financial aid and although it would be really cool to graduate in May with a 4.0… I’m just not feeling it. I’ve come to realize that I detest physical geography with a passion. It’s testing me more than any other class ever has in my almost 2 years at a community college. Working every week day from 11-7 (and having classes until 1030 in the morning beforehand) is not helping with the transferitis… Blahhh… I have also looked up housing and degree requirements for both UCI and UCLA… I do that in most of my free time rather than reading… like I should be… for my geography quiz or spanish test tomorrow… One more semester to go! Good luck everyone!

@natjan - living at home is the tits. ill miss it, but i think im ready to start being more independent yadida? and yeah i feel u on the whole crowds/price thing for la…deadly. and hmm the studios for irvine sound interesting…i think i pretty much have my heart set on living on campus. i just want to soak up as much as the university i can before i have to leave! but i doubt you’ll have a hard time doing that, what with all the clubs and sports youre planning on doing! hopefully u get ucla!!!
i applied to ucd, ucsb, ucla, ucsd(second choiicee!), and of course ucb! i also applied to usc so we’ll see what happens there…but i pretty much am set on a UC.

@smcguy - ive looked at class schedules toooo!!! but i havent gone so far as to look them up on ratemy! hahahahaha exciting! ^_^

@redoplease- Seriously. Living at home is so cushy. I don’t pay for anything except my phone bill and I do whatever I want. Plus its just me and my dad and stepmom so its a pretty quiet place to live. However, I am going to be 25 when I transfer and feel like its time to move on. I lived on my own from 19-23 so this was sort of a lay over to being an adult. I am going to absorb my UC as much as possible, even if it means rolling around in the grass around the campus. Haha just kidding.
This is the first time in my life I have had “school spirit” and I want to be be involved! Rowing Team FTW!
If I didn’t have a great relationship and lovely friends and family here, I would totally rather go to UCB, it just wouldn’t work out for me right now. I know that sounds crazy.
I hope you get in! I hope everyone gets in to their school of choice! Good luck!

I love Chaffey… The people are pretty serious as a whole and while classes are near impossible to get your first year, after that it’s not a problem. I came in and did what I needed to do in 4 semesters and was ready to transfer for winter/spring '11 but couldn’t because of the admissions closures. While it’s easy to get absorbed into cc culture, Chaffey makes sure that a serious student will get where they need to go. Plus I can’t complain about the Coffee Bean and Hot Dog on a Stick that just opened on campus. Wish Starbucks was opening now instead of fall.
Anyways, as far as dorming goes, I plan to live on campus. UCI seems to be a large commuter school and I don’t want it to feel like an extension of cc by going home every night. I’ve heard that by dorming social life definitely improves and their seems to be a lot of school spirit among people who stay there. I also applied to UCR, UCB (just for fun; couldn’t leave my family and fiancee), UCSD and UCLA. Crossing my fingers…

UCIhopeful: I am so jealous of a Coffeebean on your campus! We only have some crappy coffee machine. Maaaaan, I feel left out! Haha. I also understand about UCB, I couldn’t leave bf, he is at UCR and isn’t looking to change schools. I would love to go there, more than UCLA but it just wouldn’t work. If am looking forward to living in the Irvine area, its super safe and really nice. Plus there is a Whole Foods Market and a Native Foods close by. Yes, I am factoring in food to my college choice.

Oh its cool. But seriously. Chick’n wings and their Chick’n ranch burger are AMAZING.
Also, Whole Foods has vegan chocolates and gelato and their self serve indian food is delicious.
I’m going to have to take out a loan for food only.

There is nothing wrong with UCR. It takes a lot of crap on here because it isn’t a top tier UC, but it is a great school. I have researched the professors in my major and they are awesome. I am on the campus semi frequently and it is a nice campus that has been updated recently. My boyfriend’s professor for envi. sci. have phds from Yale and are incredibly awesome.

Sorry but I just think it is ridiculous for that school to constantly get ripped on. It isn’t my first choice because I have always had my heart set on UCI of LA, but that doesn’t mean anything is wrong with it.

Like I’ve said a million times… UCR consistently ranks in the top hundred universities in the country with the likes of Harvard, Stanford, all the other UC’s, etc… How much better can a school get than that? While it may be seen by many as a “reject” or fourth choice school, think about the thousands of universities you could attend that rank lower than it. We Californians are just spoiled to be surrounded by so many amazing universities for a public school price.
