Transferring Advice - What are my chances?

I’m a college student looking to transfer to another school for my junior year.

I applied to Maryland and UConn for this spring semester and got in to both. I’m really frustrated with my current school and don’t want to continue to waste three hours a day commute to the school and back home. Now I don’t know if I should stay at my current school or go to UConn. I already paid the deposit and applied for housing. I’m worried that when I apply for them again I won’t get in because my grades dropped a bit and got one C grade. So my decision is to stay and apply to the schools listed below for the fall of 2009 semester or go to UConn for the upcoming spring semester.

I know my GPA is low for most of these schools but do you think my chances are at the schools below? I’m a New York resident if that helps.

Georgetown University
University of Southern California
University of North Carolina
Georgia Institute of Technology
University of Illinois
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
University of Texas
University of Maryland*
Ohio State University
University of Pittsburgh
Clemson University
University of Minnesota
Rutgers University
Purdue University
University of Connecticut*
SUNY-Binghamton
Rochester Institute of Technology

Also suggest any schools not listed that you believe will fit me best based on my numbers and my major.

the only thing that popped out at me on that list was georgetown, which is quite frankly completely out of your league and you should put out of your mind

why not go to uconn next semester if you are already in? this needs to be explained...was the commuting problem in reference to you potentially going to uconn or to your current situation?

outside of gtown (ughhh) and rpi, you should have a shot at most schools on that list..again, no need to be deterministic and say that you will get into them, but if you can get your app. together you should have a shot at getting into most of those schools

edit: my eyes glazed over much of the list. I agree with nyu44 that usc will be hard for you to get into and perhaps go a bit further and say it is pretty much out of reach for you...same thing with UNC

USC might be another hard one for you with your gpa. But if you want to try, i say good luck.

Ga Tech does not accept transfers unless they have had Calculus I and II and a two semester lab science for ANY major.

Three hours a day commuting is an awful lot. I'd give serious consideration to UConn. Your GPA will shut you out of a number of those schools anyway.

You have a good shot at Bingh. Out of curiosity, did you go to Brooklyn Tech, Stuy, BronxSci, Murrow, Midwood?

Thanks for your replies.

So taking out GTown, USC, UNC, RPI, and Ga Tech, is there any schools worth staying at my current school and applying for? My best move would be to just go to UConn now?
Violaghost, I didn't go to those high schools.

I like your chances for bing, pitt, clemson, rutgers, RIT, and purdue. The other schools are a reach. Georgetown is a super reach. Considering that you are majoring in MIS, uconn is a really good fit for you.

Woooo Panthers!!!

I would suggest transferring to IUB's Kelley School, its not hard to get in IU and they're business school is excellent.

Majors 'along those lines':
* Information and Process Management (IPM)
* Operations Management (OM)
* Supply Chain Management (SCM)
