I originally wanted to go to a large public university about 3 hours from home, but some horrible family issues happened my senior year of HS and I planned to stay local. So, I went to a very small private Christian university in my hometown.

I'm almost finished with my first semester and I love college, but I am very disappointing in my private university. I'm paying close to $15K/semester and I am not getting my money's worth at all. This is because of too many reasons to list and it is just not my opinion. About a good 1/3 of my freshman class is either transferring out 2nd semester or sophomore year.

I plan to transfer out to the large public university either 2nd semester or next year, but I'm confused on what to do! Is it a bad idea to transfer out 2nd semester of freshman year, which is just about a month and a half away? I'm scared that I'm leaving everything behind on a whim, but it is where I want to be.

Sometimes it’s better to wait until fall for social (more transfers and other new students to get to know) and/or academic (finish up year-long sequence courses) reasons. There’s no inherent problem with transferring in the spring; it’s up to you to determine if you’re ready now or should wait.

Also, you need to check the college website to see if the school accepts transfers spring of fr year and if you still have time to make their deadline.

If it is definitely your decision, then you should go as soon as possible. Otherwise you’ll miss out on time to make new friends and get adjusted. Hope it works out! :)
