Transferring after being suspended-- need some insight.

I went to University straight out of high school. I could have went to other more prestiges colleges but I missed the deadline to accept their offer. Anywho, I started off a little bumpy-- ended up with a 2.7 cumulative GPA at the end of my sophmore year. Coming in as a Junior in 2010 I was doing well and was in the process of pledging a business fraternity. But one night, I got super drunk and this girl I had me that same night said I could get on her bed. So I did, I was under the impression she wanted to fool around. After some talking I made a move and she wasn't into it anymore. So I left-- and went back to my room. I didn't think much of it. A month goes by, I'm in the dean's office... being accused of Sexual Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Verbal Abuse, and Alcohol. Long story short I was suspended from the University until 2012. I went into a depression for a while- but I ended up getting a job back at home in retail. I'm only 20 years old I want to get back on track. I want a career instead of working a minimum wage job my whole life. I have a college nearby my house. I want to get in but my GPA is at 2.7 and with those conduct charges and my suspension it's not looking good for me. I'm curious as what I can do? I've learned from my mistakes (Even if it was caused by getting screwed over by some random girl) I am not going to stand by and let my life go to waste. But I need some advice. I want to get ahead in life. I enjoy finance-- and learning about the stock market. I don't know how to go about applying when the odds are against me. Any insight?

I would probably go to a community college, spend about 2 years there and bring my grades up if I were you. I am not sure how the record that you have will affect you into gaining admission.

I thought about that but I don’t want to lose 2 years of college for nothing-- it’s a lot of money to just throw out the window.

You can try applying as a transfer to a couple of places right now with your low GPA and suspension–and cross your fingers that a college will take you. You might get lucky. But it probably won’t be any highly selective colleges.

OR you can spend a few years bringing up your GPA, getting involved in ECs or a job that show lots of growth and maturity (and a boss or an EC advisor who can STRONGLY attest to your STELLAR personal character as one of your letters of recommendation) – and try again. It wouldn’t be a “waste of two years” – it would be years of you PROVING to yourself and adcoms that A) you can get better grades than a 2.7 overall and B) you have made a lot of smart, wise, mature decisions in the meantime.

So - apply now, if that doesn’t yield results, try again in a year or two after you raised your GPA.

On my transcript it doesn’t say that I was suspended-- a ‘W’ shows for my last semester of classes that I attended. Looks like I manually withdrew from all of my classes.

Is it worth it to ‘forget’ to include that I was suspended on my GMU transfer application, or just include it with full disclosure even though it’s bad enough to try to get in with my low GPA the suspension will make it even worse?

Not a question of ethics-- merely speculating.

How can you “forget” your suspension when the CA asks you:

And the College Official’s Report asks:

I think annika gave you some excellent advice.

Come clean.
If they find out, you’ll get kicked out of the college you got into and I really doubt you would get any third chances.

I feel for you, especially not wanting to “waste time” in CC, but its no race. Go where you wanna go, and do what you wanna do, regardless of the time it will take.
