I don’t ever post here, but always read other people’s posts… I’m posting today because I will be applying for transfer to various colleges next semester (for fall admission) and am super nervous- I want to know if I have a chance of getting into a decent school.
Sooo here’s my story, it’s a little unique; I dropped out of high school while I was in my junior year and got my GED (I didn’t have a good GPA in high school either, probably a 2.5), about a 1/2 year later I started at community college and tried to go for 2 semesters, but ended up withdrawing from the classes I was enrolled in, and failed one (neglected to withdraw). I guess you could say I was having a rough time in life through, probably, the duration of my time in high school, and about two years afterwards. I don’t think I need to go into details here, but will explain on my college apps, of course.
Anyway, I decided to become serious about my life and school about a year and a half ago. I re-enrolled in community college (VA) the summer of 2014. I retook the class I failed and powered through remedial math courses. Thus far, I have taken around 30 credits (English 1&2, World Histories 1&2, Economics Micro&Macro, Pre-Calc, and Calculus) and am currently enrolled in 14 credits (Spanish 1, Physics 1, World Literature, and Public Speaking). My current GPA is 3.33, however I expect it to rise to 3.37ish at the end of this semester.
By writing this post, I am hoping that somebody will be able to tell me what schools I may be able to gain admission to. I would have liked to have a higher GPA, but throughout the entirety of the time I have been enrolled in school, I have also been working full-time (cuts into my study time). Quite honestly, I’m mad at myself for getting such a low GPA. My dream transfer school was Cornell, and although I will still apply there, I am pretty positive that I won’t get in. UVA was my next choice, but I’m thinking that the chances of me getting in there are also slim. Other than those two, I think UMiami or NYU would be great, maybe even GWU? I don’t know… What schools do I have a chance of getting in? I would like to stay in top 50, if possible, and I wouldn’t mind liberal arts schools…
