Transferring after Medical Leave of Absence

I have sort of an unusual situation. I am currently in my freshman year of college. Unfortunately, I got sick midway through my first semester and had to return home. I was able to make up my work from that semester and avoid a medical withdrawal. However, I was not granted medical clearance to return for the spring, so I've been forced to take a leave of absence.

I was never really happy at the school I attended, and I always planned on considering a transfer. But now, after everything that's happened, I'm afraid that I'm going to have no chance to get into any school I'm interested in. Why would a college accept me when they can select any number of applicants who have a full year of college under their belt?

I don't know if there's anything anyone can say to help me, but I figured I would try and find out. Thank you to anyone who responds to this post.

Where do you want to apply?

What were your high school stats, GPA and SAT/ACT scores? What's your college GPA? What level of college?

The main schools to which I'm thinking of applying to transfer are Hamilton and Brandeis.

I was a strong high school student. I was generally a straight-A student and finished as the salutatorian in a class of roughly 450-500 students. My SAT score was so-so, a 2040, and my ACT composite score was a 32 or 33 (I don't remember exactly). From my first college semester, I have fairly good grades, though I'm still working on making up the work from one of my classes.

Sounds like you're in good shape for a shot at those schools.
