Transferring after Not Completing Final Semester

I completed 3 semesters at top 20 four-year university. I began my fourth semester enrolled and applied as a transfer applicant to a well-known and strong state university and want to transfer. I did not stay enrolled the entire semester at my first university and am in the process of communicating this to the school I am transferring to. Are they allowed to ask for a reason? On the application, I listed courses in progress for the semester which I was not enrolled for the entire semester, so if they looked into it, they would have been under the assumption I was going to be enrolled the entire semester, so this minor change could be viewed as more than a minor change. Submitting a final transcript is part of the transfer process, but I will not be doing this! Any knowledge, experience or insight welcomed.

You have to submit a final transcript if the college requires it. Dropping out of college midway through the semester isn’t a “minor change.” If there’s a reason (illness, affordability, family circumstances, etc.) and you formally withdrew, they’ll probably consider that. Your final transcript will show the withdrawal, and the college can ask for a reason before deciding whether or not to admit you. You can choose not to supply required materials, but colleges won’t process your app without them.

Thank you for the reply. From what source do you know that they can ask for a reason before deciding whether or not to admit you? Also, I have already been admitted, they already made the decision to admit me. Then I was still at my first University for the spring semester (during which I was admitted) and at a later time I become un-enrolled (if thats a word).

They have the right to ask. If you were “Unenrolled” due to disciplinary action, in other words expelled, that would be relevant to your new university and they have the right to rescind your acceptance.

What source makes you think you can tell a state university whatever you want and they’re required to take your word for it? Did you read the admission requirements for transfers at the 2nd college? Those aren’t suggestions. State universities are governed by the regulations of their particular state. If the state requires transcripts for transfer students, you need to supply them.

It doesn’t matter that you were already admitted. Admission is contingent upon completing the transfer process. Students who don’t submit the required paperwork can have a hold put on their account and not be allowed to register. be rejected, or have their admission rescinded.

In the event they follow up asking why I was not enrolled the entire semester, they would be able to obtain the information from myself or my previous university. Would they need my permission to go to my previous university for information or could they just do so if they like?

They aren’t just going to take your word for why you left. You’re going to have to provide written records. Were you expelled? If there’s a disciplinary record, it will be on your transcript. The college that accepted you won’t bother to contact your previous university. If they don’t receive your transcript, your file will be incomplete and you just won’t be permitted to register.

They might need a dean or advisor to send them information directly.
