Transferring After One Semester

I was wondering if anyone could speak from experience about transferring after first semester in school?
I am very sure about my decision to transfer, I know where I want to transfer and it would save a lot of money if I just did it at the end of the semester. My current school is very far from home, making travel incredibly expensive. After living in the environment for a few months, I know my current school is not where I want to be and staying here longer will not change my mind so I feel like I should go ahead and transfer after this semester.

Hi!! I recently transferred to cal state monterey from a community college. I am originally from orange county, so my school is also far away from my friends and family. After almost finishing up my first semester, I feel as though this school isn’t fit for me. I miss my family and friends, and am extremely disappointed in the academics. That being said, i applied to transfer to my local school cal state fullerton for spring semester. You have to do what’s best for you! If you are not happy, do what you can to change that.

Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps to know that others have gone through similar things! I hope everything works out at the new school!

Yes, lots of people transfer home after one semester for exacly the reasons you state. File the application.

There also is nothing wrong with taking a leave of absence from your curent institution at the end of this semester, and then taking some time off while you reconsider your college goals and work up an application list for fall admission.

I am going through the exact same thing right now, but for different reasons. I am attending a university from home and want out lol. I wanted to transfer before I even started my freshman year. I had already started filling out apps. I did give my school an honest try, but after a few months, it’s not for me. Don’t listen to what anyone has to say about “waiting a year”. Do what you want. This is your education and your life. You should live it the way you want to!
