Transferring and college question

Before taking any class, go to http://oscar.gatech.edu and select the right most icon “Transfer Equivalencies” then search by college. Make sure that the classes you are about to take at GSU show up on that list as having a GT Equivalent. The go to the major’s website (e.g. here for cs: [Overview — College of Computing](http://www.cc.gatech.edu/education/undergrad/bscs/bscs-threads)) and make sure that the GT Equivalent is needed for your major.

Personally, I would do it backwards. I would go to the major’s website (for example, let’s look at Biochemistry: [Georgia Tech :: Chemistry & Biochemistry :: Undergraduate Curriculum :: Biochemistry Track](http://www.chemistry.gatech.edu/undergraduate/curriculum/bsbiochemistry/)

In the first semester, I am recommended to take CHEM 1310, MATH 1501, ENGL 1101, CS 1371, and HPS 1040.

Then I would go to Oscar and find the GSU Equivalencies: GT CHEM 1310 = GSU CHEM 1212, GT MATH 1501 = GSU MATH 2211, GT ENGL 1101 = GSU ENGL 1101, GT CS 1371 = GSU CSC 2310, GT HPS 1040 = GSU KH 3000.

So my schedule at GSU would be CHEM 1212, MATH 2211, ENGL 1101, CSC 2310, and KH 3000. But before registering, I would look at GSU’s chemistry major (in case my transfer is rejected) found here: [B.S</a>. in Chemistry — Georgia State University](http://www.gsu.edu/bs_chemistry_pa.html) . I can see from that sheet that MATH 2211, CHEM 1212, and ENGL 1101 are required for the GSU degree. CSC2310 and KH 3000 are not required. So, maybe I go back and look at my schedule, and instead of taking those right now, I take GSU PHYS 2211K which is equivalent to GT PHYS 2211, which is required by both schools.

New Schedule: PHYS 2211K, MATH 2211, CHEM 1212, ENGL 1101 (15 hours) and maybe KH 3000 if it’s an easy course.

Then I look at the GT transfer requirements here: <a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission; and see that for my major, Biochemistry, the above classes meet half of my transfer requirements (Lab Chemistry, Physics I, English I, and Calc I). So now I know that I have a schedule that 1) meets the requirements to transfer to Tech, 2) will not put me behind if I transfer to Tech, and 3) will not put me behind if I stay at GSU.
