Transferring and college question

GT is much more lenient with transfer admissions. You’re not automatically in if you meet the minimum criteria, but it’s pretty close to automatic.

And keep in mind that the minimum GPA also applies to your math and science classes (there’s an overall minimum GPA, a Math/Science minimum GPA, minimum number of hours, and specific class criteria you need to pass).

Cool. I’m so excited! Tomorrow I’m going to the campus(for the first time ever) to attend an engineer info session and a transfer info session.

^ You can call admissions, the closer you get to applying, and they can give you a good idea of what they are considering to be a competitive gpa. My understanding is that they only offer so many slots each semester to transfer students so you want to get your gpa as high as possible.

From what they said today there is no particular number they hold open for transfer students. It sounds as if you meet the gpa requirements, as well as the other requirements, you’re in. They said “we can’t use the word guarantee, but if you meet or beat the required gpa then you’re very competitive for transfer.” We’ll see. I still have some required course work to hash out over the next couple of semesters.

What college are you going to now sara?

Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta Ga. It’s about 20 minutes north of GT.

How do you like the school? Is there a lot of bright students? Is it diverse? And how did you do in high school?

So far I like it. Of course I’m still early in the game. But you know, having small classes for Calc and Chem makes it a little easier to learn…I guess. I really don’t have anything to compare it to, but that’s what they say. SPSU is very diverse. The school is very big on having minority students and clubs. My ultimate goal though is to graduate from Ga Tech, so I hope to only be as SPSU for another couple of semesters. As far as high school goes, I did terrible. But that was over ten years ago. It’s just been in the past couple of years that I have started to really put a value on education. I wish it was something that I cared about when I was 15 but such is life.
