Hello, I am apply for transfer from a CCC to UC. According to assist.org I missing a single course that is a Matlab course that is not offered at my school. On the UCSB website for transferring it is just asking for a course in Matlab. The transfer director counselor at my school says that I should not even bother applying because UCSB is particular about their requirements. However, I meet all other requirements as well as their strongly recommended requirements. What are the chances of them overlooking that one course?
If the course is not offered at your CCC and is not in the district, note that it in the academic additional comments in the application. Your counselor is wrong to be telling you that. The UCs usually waive req if the course isn’t offered near you. Definitely apply.
I had this exact same question! I am applying as a chemical engineering major, and I also needed Matlab. What they don’t tell you is they can make an exception for that class. I spoke to a UCSB admissions rep and she told me my C++ course would act as a substitute for the class, even though I still need to take Matlab after I transfer.
“The admission selection criteria listed below will remain the same for students
applying for fall 2018 admission with one exception. Engineering 3 is one of the
courses that must be completed prior to transfer. For students who are unable to
complete a course articulating with Engineering 3, we will accept a course
articulating with Computer Science 16 instead of Engineering 3, for admission
purposes only. Computer Science 16 does not satisfy a major requirement and the
student would still need to take Engineering 3 at UCSB if admitted.”
From the LACC -> UCSB assist page. Look up the computer science articulation agreement with your CC and hopefully you find you’ve taken something equivalent to Eng 3. Good luck!
