Transferring and Resumes

<p>Hi all, </p>

<p>My son had to leave an ivy league school due to a horrible depression. He took time off to recover and started taking classes at the decently regarded state uni (nothing super prestigious but certainly perfectly respectable I'd say). Fortunately he is doing better and is set to graduate not too far away. He was asking me about his resume, as to whether he should put the original school on it, or not. There would be a year gap that could be identified between the two schools two. And if he did put it he'd have to either say it was a health situation, a financial situation, or a family situation, and these would have to account for that one year gap too, I suppose. Any advice? I'm not sure what to tell him and he wants to do well on any interviews.</p>

<p>I don’t think he needs to put the original school in the resume. Most employers won’t really care when you graduated as long as you did graduate.</p>

<p>Also, a lot of people have attended more than one college on the way to their bachelor’s degree, and not necessarily in four straight years.</p>

<p>Yes, it’s common to just put down the college where you earned the degree. For instance, I transferred from a CCC to a UC and only put the UC down on my resume. And it took me 6 years as I worked on and off, but it’s customary to just put the year you earned the degree. If an employer were to ask for transcripts, then he would send them from all schools.</p>
