I recently received my SAT score and achieved a 2030, which I felt was decent. I am planning on transferring from a 1st tier university in Asia/Asia pacific to Wharton. I was just wondering whether anyone knows whether the SAT score is even important for a transfer student. Wharton requires it; however, I am not so sure how essential the score would be to be honest and so I don't know whether it would be worth retaking it for an extra 70 -100 point increase.

They do consider it, although it isn’t as important as it would be if you were applying undergrad. If you can get an increase, I say go for it, although hasn’t the last possible test date passed?

Thanks for the reply. That’s what I thought (about the SAT not being so important) seemed logical. However, I can still sit a fair few of SATs for sure before I submit my application. I’m not applying for this year entry but for next year’s entry.

Do you know if the admissions people take into account the university that you come from. It seems unfathomable that the admissions officer would take the GPAs and results at face value and not compare them relative to where the student has actually come from. Obviously, universities are more rigorous than others. Could you verify that?

Oh yeah, definitely. A person going to a Community College, for example, would need a really high GPA and then some to be considered, while if you’re at a pretty well known, rigorous university they’ll take that into account.

Put it this way: there would be no way you would get into Wharton as a freshman with a 2030 SAT. However, if you have taken the SAT as a 19 year-old and scored a 2030 that’s worse than a 17 year-old with the same score. Further, it’s not clear what a “1st tier university in Asia/Asia pacific” exactly is by Penn’s standards. Many Wharton transfers come from top 25 US universities, and most admits will have higher SAT’s than yours.

Further, there are Penn CAS students who want to transfer to Wharton.

I take your point rhg3rd regarding the SAT scores. I can’t dispute what you said. I may take it again or I may not, it depends. I thought so: many of the transfers come from the top 25 universities!
