I've divided my questions up based on schools: UC - Berkeley

My First Year Development Course was a 1 credit P/F course that brought in speakers and talked about careers in business and business in general. I am afraid UC might not allow this course to transfer over, what do you guys think?

I'm taking a course called American Realism. It is a writing intensive course, do you believe this will be accepted as an R&C?

Business and Economic Statistics is a more in-depth course than what they require, will that hurt me in any way?

Do you think I will have 60 UC transferrable courses? How can I get more information about courses if I am from OOS? Anyone have insight?

UPenn - Wharton:

I'm transferring as a potential junior. Thoughts?
My statistics course does not have a calculus prerequisite, my school does not have business statistics with a calculus prerequisite offered. What to do?

NYU - Stern:

Will I be able to study abroad if I enter as a junior?

Lastly, and most importantly, what are my chances to these schools?

someone, please?

your stats at first seem impressive, and they are. but after reviewing them, in actuality, there are a great deal of red flags. my expertise is in haas, because i've spent countless hours calling and researching, so that's all the advice i can guarantee. this is not to discourage you, this is to show you the reality. im not gonna apologize for that.

1)you're not only coming from an OOS school, you're also coming from a 4 year university. that puts you at an inherent disadvantage, but you already knew this, because it's a state school.

2) your gpa is good, but your courses are REALLY,REALLY,REALLY problematic. microeconomics is a prerequisite and counts toward your SAR, therefore its included in your prereq gpa. you cant erase that. unfortunately, the fact that you dont have 5's in both micro and macro means you cant use it on the application. keep this in mind: you NEED TO PUT DOWN ON YOUR SAR THAT YOU TOOK MICROECONOMICS AT CORNELL. that is absolutely IMPERATIVE. haas only considers your first attempts at courses. secondly, i dont know the exact articulation, but you need to know that haas gives priority to applicants who have completed the prerequisites by the time of application.

to maximize your chances of admission to HAAS, this needs to be your fall schedule:

Introductory Statistics
First semester calculus
Introduction to business
American Realism
Arabic 003

3)the fact that you didnt take that many units is also going to hurt you. i'm sorry to break it to you dude, but practically every single one of your AP's dont matter to haas. ( http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/Aplist.html )

4)this is not to say that you dont have good chances at stern or wharton. you have a stellar high school academic record. if i was in your position, i'd be shooting for those as well. also recommendations you should look into: columbia, cornell, and CMU. all highly ranked business programs, cornell is a little lacking in rank but still a good program nonetheless. they would be more compatible with your chances for admission, as well as a better fit,i believe, for you..i mean, considering that you are in new york and all.

you'll definitely get into stern.
doutful for haas since you're out of state.
wharton as a junior? you need a miracle even with great stats.

Zemookmook,

Where did you hear that Haas only considers first attempts at courses? The SAR asks for both the original grade and the repeat grade.

yeah, it does, sweetny. however, the admissions office confirmed for me a long time ago that although haas takes into consideration that the course was repeated, they weight the first attempt much more. this means that if someone got a D in a prerequisite, essentially, that would be the grade that they would be considering-even though they may have repeated the grade at a later date.

haha for some reason i read that as "transferring as a janitor"

Good to know! Wow that probably hurts a lot of otherwise qualified people.

Does anyone apply to Haas OOS?? Damn

chicken 123

Yeah, like two or three people a year make it in that way if memory serves... or maybe that's UC -> UC.

I thought your background in the ME region stuck out, and that should give you an advantage.

thanks for all the responses guys, can anyone answer the question on upenn and their stat w/ calculus prerequisite requirement?

I'm guessing that you'll have to apply as a sophomore transfer and spend 3 years to graduate if you go to wharton. my school doesn't have stats with calc prereq either :(

woah are u sure?
