Transferring as a Sophomore or Junior

Hello,

So I just recently discovered I could transfer as a sophomore (I can't believe I didn't realize before - I go to UCB where they only take junior transfers, so I assumed it applied to all colleges). I'm really freaking out right now since I hear juniors have a lower chance of getting in. Should I put together an application now in the next 2 weeks? or should I just wait for next year (I'm looking at Wharton btw)- my GPA may be lower then, but I'll have done an internship over the summer. All I've done so far is get into research (in Haas since last semester/ 5-8 hours a week), and last semester I volunteered at the museum of vertebrate zoology. My GPA at the end of the semester will be 3.83 at the very least.

Thanks!

Edit: Can I apply this semester and try again next year if I get rejected? A problem I have is that I won't be able to take all the required junior transfer courses in Berkeley until I am enrolled in Haas (junior year) - meaning I can take intermediate micro and stats, but most likely will not be able to take intro to financial or managerial accounting.

ok…tl;dr:

Freshman at UCB with my lowest potential GPA being a 3.8. I got rejected when I applied from HS, and want to go to Wharton. Should I put an app together by the 15th (new experience: research 2 sems and volunteer 1 sem) or wait to apply next year after I do an internship.

Can I apply again next year if I’m rejected?

I would wait until your Jr. year. You will be competing with a lot of other Penn transfers as a soph. The Wharton class size increases each year and I think they do take a fair amount of transfers. That’s how Ivanka Trump got it, as a jr.

So this: “Students are encouraged to transfer after their freshman year to enter for their sophomore year. There are very few spaces available for entering juniors.” isn’t really true?

^^ Was that aimed for Penn’s internal transfer students?
Anyways, if you continue to do well at UCB, you may not need to transfer as you may get accepted to Haas as a jr.

Nope, it was on the main transfer site ([Penn Admissions: Transferring into the Wharton School](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/applying/transwharton.php)), which is why I didn’t know if I should shuffle to get the app/recs and stuff asap. Yeah, I know about Haas, and apparently I seem to be a pretty good candidate (??), but moving to the east coast might be necessary next year, and I’m not all that happy here tbh.

Can I apply as a junior transfer if I’m rejected as a sophomore transfer?

I think you should try applying! it never hurts to go for it  and theres no rule saying you cant reapply
