Transferring as Freshman

Is it possible to transfer to other college after completing only freshman first semester in fall?

Yes, but not everywhere, and normally they will look at your high school grades and SAT/ACT scores rather than what you have done so far at that college/university.

If you aren’t happy with the college/university that you are likely to attend this fall, take a gap year instead and apply to the places where you would rather be.

For sure. You just have to make sure the college you intend to transfer to accepts fall sophomore transfers (which is usually the soonest possible term to transfer into).
Depending on the school, many will have a credit minimum needed for transfer. Like the college I transferred to required 30 credits for sophomore transfers. I had 18 credits from AP, took 16 credits my first semester freshman year, and just got accepted as a fall sophomore.
Most, if not all, schools will also have a minimum GPA requirement. Just get higher than the minimum GPA, and for a lot of schools you are in a good spot. As for more competitive schools (like top 15 rank), admissions are just as hard as freshman admissions (sometimes harder).

@happymomof1 @camover thanks for the tip. But I have not yet decided which school I’m going to transfer. Can you guys tell me some examples of prestigious universities that accept mid year freshman transfer?

There isn’t a list, and the rules can change at any time. You need to check each website yourself.
