I'm currently a sophomore at Pitt and just transferred here this semester (Fall 2011) from Duquesne University. I currently am technically an undecided major at Pitt, although I am in the Pre-Rehabilitation Science program. My goal is to eventually go on to graduate school for physician assistant. (Rehabilitation science is the undergraduate degree that Pitt recommends it's students take for their PA school). Recently however, I have realized that my reasons for transferring out of Duquesne were wrong and that Duquesne overall was a better fit for me. As a student, I benefit much more from smaller class sizes with more engagement from professors. I find myself struggling to get B's at Pitt when I got mainly A's at Duquesne. Also, upon looking at other schools lists of pre-requisites for their PA schools, Pitt's Rehabilitation science major would not get me the courses I would need to go to any PA school but theirs. I have been thinking about transferring back to Duquesne for the spring 2012 semester. I would enroll in the pre-med program and major in psychology. If I transferred for the spring, this would allow me to stay on track and be able to graduate on time.
Do you think that this is a good idea or will it hurt me later when applying to PA schools?

1) You can take classes outside of your major, so the pre-requisites for PA is not a legitimate reason.

2) For anything health science related, Pitt is tops.

3) Are you only starting to regret it because of the grades? I know people at Pitt, and from what I’ve heard, they do have smaller classes. And, Duquesne’s student:teacher ratio is 14:1, which isn’t much lower than Pitt’s 16:1.

I mean, it’s your choice. I’m biased, so I’d say stay at Pitt because, overall, I think it would benefit you more if your goal is to go into some health science/medical field.

If you’re really dreading the school, though, transfer back.
