Transferring back

I started at the University of Miami. I was only there for one semester when I decided I couldn't handle being so far away from home (I'm from NJ), so I transferred to Rutgers to be close to home. I told my parents probably 10 different reasons I didn't like Miami, because they wouldn't let me transfer if they thought it was only because I missed home and my boyfriend. I've now spent 2 semesters at Rutgers and though I do like it, I just keep regretting leaving Miami. Now I don't know what to do. Would transferring back be just too weird? At that point I would be a junior and it might be hard to meet people. It might also be a totally different experience than what I remember as a freshman. I also joined a sorority at Rutgers, which I love. There is a chapter at Miami also so I would be able to join there. Has anyone transferred back to a school before? What was it like?

ride it out at rutgers. did you leave u of m for a boyfriend from highschool?

I would say to stick it out at Rutgers. You seem to be doing well, I assume it is cheaper than Miami, and you are loving the sorority you are in. Why are you suddenly regretting leaving the place you didn’t enjoy?

I really liked Miami, I didn’t like being far away from my boyfriend at the time, who yes, was a high school boyfriend. I’ve matured a lot since then and I believe I could handle going far away. I don’t want to live in New Jersey after I graduate, I’d prefer to move somewhere south of here. I regret leaving Miami because I know I left for the wrong reasons.

Well have you been able to convince your parents you are ready to go back to Miami? Hopefully academically you are performing well at Rutgers so you should not have a problem in getting re admitted to Miami. Although I am not exactly sure if their are any added conditions in being admitted to a school that you previously transferred out of.

Most importantly are you going to be able to afford Miami now? There is a good chance that all of the scholarship and aid that you were provided as a freshman will not be available/offered to you as a transfer student. Miami is going to be almost twice as expensive as Rutgers but if finances are not an issue then proceed.

Lastly, Rutgers would not likely limit yourself from moving/working in the south after graduation provided you performed well academically. Also if you plan on going to graduate school or a professional school then it might be best to finish your cheaper undergraduate then move down south for grad school at miami or elsewhere.
