not really feeling that tepper vibe.

applying to tepper was a very last minute decision. i think i overestimated how selective the admissions process was (or, more likely, i overestimated the stats of the average tepper applicant). i wasn't really expecting to get in when i applied. to top it off, i applied ED (lol), and made a last minute switch from MCS as an applied math major to tepper.

classes start tomorrow so i don't really want to bring this up with my advisor yet, but i'm like 90% certain this isn't the place for me. i've always believed that i was going to go into a STEM field, and (maybe this is just a short-term hippie phase or something) i'm not really a fan of business. if i was hoping to transfer to CIT or MCS (or possibly even SCS) does anyone know what steps i'd have to take?

First step is talk to your advisor…

haha yeah, i figured.

i’d feel kinda weird bringing it up right off the bat, though? i mean i definitely want to take my first semester classes and just get situated here without really pursuing any kind of change, because i might decide to stick with business. i was just curious as to how the process works.

Not at all
On my first day of classes in college I randomly went to two professors and two advisors, one of whom wasn’t even mine, and they were all delighted to help me out.

oh, okay. tyvm, i guess i’ll shoot him an email. :)

If you want to switch to MCS or CIT you should do it ASAP. Most of the majors there have heavy sequence requirements, and if you wait a term or a year to do it, you’re going to be really behind.

You could always try staying in Tepper for a year taking all the CIT or MCS required classes (physics, calc, and intro engineering if you want CIT). If you decide not to switch, you have some of your science electives filled. If you choose to switch you have some of your breadth requirements filled from your required classes in Tepper.
